Rule 6 Passing
What are the rulings on the following cases? Can you identify the rule and page number in the rule book? Watch here next week for the answers.
1. B2 receives the opening kick off at the B21. B3 crosses in front of B2 at the B22 and takes a hand off from B2. B3 is finally tackled at the A46.
What is the Ruling?
2. Through a series of penalties, A is attempting a convert from their 20-yard line. On the ensuing convert B3 is called for illegal interference on pass receiver A74 in the end zone on a forward pass. The pass goes incomplete.
What are A's options?
3. A is 2D and 10 at the A25. A1 drops back to pass and has to scramble to avoid being tackled. A1 eventually throws an incomplete forward pass from the A27.
What is the ruling?
4. B2 receives the kick off at the B20 yd line. B2 runs to the B30 where he turns and throws the ball across the field to B3 who is standing at the B26. The ball hits the ground at the B33 and bounces back to B3 who picks up the ball at the B29. B3 is eventually tackled at the B50.
What is the Ruling?
5. On a convert, A1 throws a swing pass to A88. A88 stops and throws a second forward pass to A74.

Rule 6 - Situations
1. B 26 receives a Kickoff at the B 20 yard line. B28 crosses in front of B26 who hands off the ball to B28 as they cross (reverse). B 28 runs to the A 30 yard line before he is tackled.

situation as above except the handoff occurs in the EZ.

3. Team A 1D and 10 at the A40. QB A1 takes the ball and starts to run. He gets to the A42 and sees a linebacker charging him quickly, he retreats to the A 39 when he sees A10 open at the 55 yd. line and completes a pass to him. A10 is tackled immediately.
Ruling:
4. Team A 1D and 10 at the A40. QB A1 passes to a player at the 55 yard line. The pass hits A64(who is blocking at the LS) on the helmet and bounces off his helmet continuing in a downfield direction. A88 is at the A51 and catches the ball and is tackled immediately.
Ruling:
5. Team A is punting from their own 2 yard line. The punter muffs the snap and drops the ball. A Team B player pressures him. He kicks the ball lying loose on the ground to A 26 who was lined up onside to try and recover the punt and is still behind him. A 26 punts the ball to the A 30 yard line where it is recovered by B. The play goes dead at the A30.

More Rule 6 Cases
1) Play: Team A is 2nd and goal from the B9 yard line. A14 throws a short pass to A77 who after making the reception fumbles at the B5 yard line. A77 can’t seem to find the handle so at the B4 yard line he bats the ball ahead and then clearly swats ahead again at the B2 yard line before falling on it in the end zone.
What is the call?
2) Play: Team A is 2nd Down and 10 at the B35 yard line. A14 throws a forward pass, which hits A44 on the helmet at the B32. A44 is not blocking anyone, he is actually attempting to pursue a B player in the area, but there has been no contact. After the ball hits A44’s helmet is then caught by A16 at the B33 who runs it into the EZ.
What is the call?
3) Play: From the A40 yard line on 1st down, A14 throws a forward pass intended for A25. Before the ball crosses the LOS, defensive end B69 touches the ball. The ball continues across the LOS. At the same time the ball is tipped, B34 knocks A25 to the ground at the A50 yard line. The ball falls incomplete in the vicinity of A25 – at the A 44 yard line.
What is the call?
